"From the Inside Out” - Opening Reception at SIUE from 5-9pm on August 22, 2014

After more than 22 months of planning, Pat Vivod and I, co-curators of FTIO, invite all fiber artists, collectors and those who simply love textiles to the opening reception of our exhibition at SIUE on August 22.  With artwork by five artists from Israel, The Netherlands and the USA, this will be a very exciting show!!
____________________________

This exhibition is the recipient of a 2014 SDA Small Events Grant.

From the Inside Out is an international exhibition of five artists who share a devotion to ecological, economical and sustainable ways of dyeing and printing natural fibers, fabrics and handmade paper, but whose individual processes and ideas are quite diverse.

Each artist explores distinct interpretations of the overarching theme through personal investigations defined by their individual key words: Tangent, Seeds, Mapping, Feast, and Core. From handmade paper to heavily textured felt, from rust printed silk hangings to profusely embroidered eco-printed silks, the title describes both a process and an artistic vision.

                            Elizabeth Adams-Marks (Illinois, USA)
                            Irit Dulman (Tel Aviv, Israel)
                            Fabienne Rey (Utrecht, The Netherlands)

                            Rio Wrenn (Oregon, USA)

Opening Reception: Friday August 22, 5 to 9pm

The next meeting for SDA-IL will be Friday August 22, 2014 at Barbara Schneider's studio at 1pm

Hi all!

You are invited Friday August 22, 2014 to Barbara Schneider's studio at The Starline Gallery in Harvard, IL at 1 pm (address should be in SDA constant contact email that went out today). Please bring something to share for a potluck. Barbara will have coffee, ice tea, hot tea and bottled water.

We will hold a combined SAQA/SDA meeting. We will have the SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) traveling trunk show as well as the SDA (Surface Design Association) Swatch Library available for viewing. This is a great opportunity to see at least 50 small quilts made with various techniques and also to see the many varieties of surface design techniques on the 12 x 12 fabric swatches. In addition to the meeting we will have show and tell and food. Harvard is approximately 60 miles northwest of Chicago and 10 miles south of Walworth at the west end of Lake Geneva. For those driving from the east and south you can take the northwest toll way to Rt. 47, go north 15 miles to Woodstock, and then west again to Harvard (about 15 miles).  For those who might like to take the train the Metra line is the Union Pacific Northwest Line to Harvard. You can look up the schedule. The train stops right outside the studio building.

https://metrarail.com/metra/en/home/maps_schedules/metra_system_map/up-nw/schedule.full.html

In addition to our meeting at the Starline that day, you might want to consider these additional options:

1. A 15 minute drive up to Lake Geneva area for fun and frolic

2. Staying on (or coming back from Lake Geneva) for The Starline’ 4th Friday event. This is a great opportunity to see several open artist studios, see 1-2 juried art exhibits, a photo exhibit, hear live music, eat appetizers and generally have a fun time from 6-9 pm for $5!

http://www.starlinefactory.com/

3. Right next door to the Starline building is Steelheart , which stays open on 4th Friday nights. It is a huge space filled with all kinds of steel and wire ornamental stuff for your home and garden. And also just another interesting building to poke around in.

www.steelheartltd.com/

Please RSVP to Barbara Schneider (her email is in the SDA constant contact email that was sent out today) or myself to let her know if you can come so she can get a count on food, chairs and things like that. You can also reply via comment or on the SDA-IL facebook page.

You should have received an email a couple of weeks ago and there should be a reminder coming out later tonight via email. Also, we have added some additional information to tonight's email about an exhibition opportunity that will be discussed at the meeting. I am also adding that information below.

EXQUISITE UTERUS EXHIBITION:
Illinois SDA members are invited to participate in a fiber exhibition on reproductive rights called, The Exquisite Uterus. Artists will be able to purchase a uterus for $5 at the meeting on March 29th or email Jeanette to purchase one and it will be mailed to you.

The exhibition will come to HumanThread Gallery in the Bridgeport Art Center in July.
There will be an opening reception and meet and greet dinner July 18th with the exhibit organizers before the opening.

HERE is an article about the show.

I hope to see you all at the meeting! If you can't make it to the meeting but want to participate in the exhibition "The Exquisite Uterus" please contact me or Jeanette and we will let you know how to get your "uterus".
