INNOVATORS AND LEGENDS: Generation in Textiles and Fibers, and, Workshops

Hi all,

I thought you might be interested in an early warning that the Muskegon Museum of Art is planning three terrific five-day workshops in conjunction with its exhibit INNOVATORS AND LEGENDS: Generation in Textiles and Fibers which opens December 13, 2012.

The workshops will take place the week of December 10. Famed art quilter Nancy Crow will be one of the instructors. Native American basket maker Dawn Nichols Walden will be teaching, as will tapestry artists Geary Jones and David Johnson, former head of fibers at the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts. Specific dates, prices and further details will be available soon, but I wanted to give you a heads up since the classes have to be filled by the end of August to be held.

At least a third of the artists plan to attend the opening and Gerhardt Knodel will facilitate a panel discussion that day. Here's a partial list of participants in the show: Arturo Sandoval, Sherri Smith, Warren Seelig, Cynthia Schira, Gyongy Laky, Jane Sauer, Jane Lackey, Gerhardt Knodel, Anne Wilson, Tom Lundberg, Nick Cave, Sandra Brownlee, Deborah Carlson, Joan Livingstone, Lindsey Ketterer Gates, Ted Hallman, Michael Olsewski, Laura Foster Nicholson, Kay Sekimachi, Katherine Westphal, Piper Sheppard, Lewis Knauss, Jason Pollen, Mark Newport. The exhibit will travel to the Schweinfurth Art Center, the University of Kentucky, and Colorado State University.

This show will be an amazing event to have here in West Michigan! Please pass this info on to anyone else who might be interested. The museum website is below but they don't have much info up yet (and the above info is subject to change). Curator Geary Jones is organizing the classes--you can contact him directly with questions. I'll send out updated info when it's available. Exhibit information here. Contact email for Geary Jones is here.

Love, peace & joy,
Jeanette
